ERWEKA's range of suppository testers provide reliable solutions for testing critical parameters such as comminution, hardness, melting point and penetration of suppositories. Our testers are designed to ensure that pharmaceutical manufacturers have the tools they need to guarantee the quality and consistency of suppositories.

Suppository Penetration Tester PM 30

The ERWEKA PM 30 measures the softening time of suppositories. Suppositories must disintegrate, dissolve or melt at body temperature in order for their active ingredients to be released into the body. ERWEKA offers a version for EP method A and method B.

The PM 30 penetration tester ("Apparatus A" according to EP) and the PM 3 ("Apparatus B" according to EP) have been developed to carry out reproducible measurements of the softening time of suppositories at specified temperatures. The design of the test device makes visual observation of the melting characteristics extremely easy. The device consists of three test stations.

Suppository Penetration Tester PM 30 Options

  • Glass test tubes, 1 g, with adaptor, for PM 30 (already included 3x in apparatus B)
  • Glass test tubes, 2 g, with adaptor, for PM 30 (for apparatus B)
  • Glass test tubes, 3 g, with adaptor, for PM 30 (for apparatus B)
  • Immersion thermostat PT 100 (incl. certificate)

Suppository Hardness Tester SBT 2

The suppository hardness tester (type SBT 2) consists of an electrically heated chamber with an integrated sample holder and a series of interchangeable plastic inserts for holding suppositories of different sizes.

Once the desired temperature is reached, the hardness is tested using weights ( included as standard) which are gradually placed on the device until the suppository collapses under the load of the added weights. The results are expressed in terms of the total weight required to collapse the suppository.

Melting Point Tester SSP

The ERWEKA SSP measures the melting point of suppository samples.

It consists of a graduated tube with an integrated test chamber made of glass. The sample to be tested is placed in the spiral-shaped glass test basket inside the test chamber, which is surrounded by a water jacket. The water inside the jacket can easily be heated with the optional EST 2 circulation heater.

Suppository Disintegration Tester ST 35

The ERWEKA suppository disintegration tester ST 35 comes with three turnable test stations, each located in a four-liter glass vessel with optional magnetic stirrer. The device also contains a thermostatically heated water bath (leak-proof and double-secured) in which the test stations are placed.

The test stations are automatically turned by 180° at adjustable intervals. The ST 35 features an integrated high-performance flow-through heating system (accuracy ± 0.2° C) and an internal temperature sensor for temperature display.

The test time and set bath temperature are conveniently entered using the membrane keys. The current test time and the current water temperature are displayed on clearly visible red LEDs. If desired, an alarm can be selected which sounds after the set test time has elapsed.

Thanks to the width of the ST 35, the test stations can be easily separated from each other to make cleaning easier. Optionally, separately controllable magnetic stirrers can be placed in each test station (glass beaker) to achieve the desired hydrodynamics.

Options

  • Set of three magnetic stirrers controlled by the membrane keys of the device
  • Water stabilizer with color indicator, one bottle for two fillings
